We are thrilled to announce that Jack Thompson has won the 2020 Tony Mazzone Trophy.

The Tony Mazzone Trophy was created in 2018 and is awarded to the best and fairest junior member who has excelled in their performance on and off the golf course over the past 12 months.  The exquisite trophy was generously donated by Joe Borrelli and was presented at the annual IWS Grange Junior Foundation Day on Friday 28th February 2020.

Jack is 22 years of age and joined The Grange Golf Club 7 years ago in 2013 and plays off a handicap of +4.9.  Some of Jack’s achievements over the past 12 months include:

  • Grange Simpson Cup and State Representative
  • 3rd SA Classic
  • 3rd Mandurah Bowl WA
  • 3rd Port Phillip Amateur VIC
  • 4th Avondale Medal NSW
  • 23rd Overall in the Japan Open (Lowest Amateur)
  • 2019 British Amateur player
  • 2019 European Amateur player
  • Prequalified and Played in the 2019 Australian Open

So far in 2020 he has finished:

  • 3rd Australian Master of the Amateurs
  • 17th Australian Amateur
  • 5th Avondale medal NSW

And last week he tied for the lead at 15 under in the Queensland Open, but unfortunately lost in a playoff and missed out on the title by one shot.  A fantastic effort for any amateur golfer playing alongside the Professionals.

Jack has played events all over the world and is gaining some great experiences for his future.  His credentials certainly tell us that he will be another Australian mixing it with the best soon! With this fantastic Amateur record in 2019 and so far in 2020, his professionalism and his affable nature made him the obvious choice for the recipient of this trophy.

Unfortunately Jack was not able to be at The Grange on the day to receive this award but recorded the message below.

Congratulations Jack.
