The Grange Blackwood Challenge was formulated by the Grange Golf Club Women’s Captain, Joyce Morley and the Blackwood Club Women’s Captain, Pam Demler in 2000. The Challenge is a match play event off the stick with 4 Single matches and one Foursomes match for players within the handicap range of GA 14-20. The event is held twice per year at each of the Clubs.

In April we played the first round at Blackwood, and as is quite normal we found the course to be quite challenging. It is definitely a home ground advantage! Our Team was lead out by Joy Prior who played very well and had an excellent win of 4 & 3. Unfortunately, it was to be our only win with Nicole Siokos losing 6 & 5, Tina Laurendi going down 4 & 2, Sharyn Simes losing a close one 2 & 1, and our Foursome match of Steph Wiltshire & Yvonne Drysdale losing 3 & 2.  The final result of round 1 was Blackwood on 8 points and Grange on 2.

The return match, held on the East Course on Thursday 11th of August ended all square. We had reasonable conditions, with  quite strong winds & some very difficult pin locations. Our Team was lead away by Sandy Furnell, who had a nice 3 & 2 win. Next away was Joy Prior with a very convincing win of 5 & 4. Nicole Siokos squared her match, and Sharyn Simes ended up 2 down in what was a tight match. Steph Wiltshire & Yvonne Drysdale lost their Foursomes match 2 & 1, in what was another close match.

The final points for round 2 were 5 each, but when tallied up with round 1 gave Blackwood 13 points to our 7. So sadly the Trophy for the 2022 Challenge has gone to Blackwood. Thank you to all our Team for participating, there is always next year!
