Round 3 of the Junior Division 2 Team was played on Sunday 22nd May at The Grange West Course against Royal Adelaide.  The course was in pristine condition and for once the weather was perfect, 20 degrees and sunny, with no wind.

This week’s team consisted of Elyse Kozlovic – Captain, Billy White, Angus Dungey, Tayan Scott, and Nate Yuan.

Tayan who had to give his opponent 12 shots, started off well by winning the first hole and parring the 4th hole.  He lost his rhythm and was 5 down after 9 holes.  He found his mojo on the back nine, with a great par on the tenth, and squares on the 11th and 13th holes, as well as winning the 14th hole.  Unfortunately, he ran out of holes to lose 5/3.  A good effort Tayan.

Elyse had to give her opponent 7 shots, and played solidly, with a birdie on the second hole and 5 pars on the front 9, to be 2 up at the turn.  She continued to play consistently with 4 more pars on the back nine to a convincing win of 4/2.  A fantastic game, Elyse. Our first win of the day.

Angus who had to give 11 shots, also had 5 pars on the front 9.  On the third hole his shot from the right-hand fairway bunker landed on the green, and he just missed the birdie putt.  His opponent also played well, and Angus was 1 up after the first 9 holes.  His game was solid, finding the fairways and putting well.  He went on to win 3/1. Well done, Angus, a great game.  Our second win.

Nate Yuan played his first game with the team, and this was his first game of match play.  He wasn’t fazed by being the first player to hit off and found the fairway.  Although he lost the first hole, he won 5 out of the first 9 holes to be 2 up at the turn.  He continued to play consistently and won his match 2/1.  A great win for Nate, and our third win of the day.  A huge thank you to Reid Scott, who caddied for Nate and provided invaluable support and encouragement.

Billy White played his first match with the team and was evenly matched with his opponent.  On the 7th hole, Billy’s second shot landed a metre from the pin, and he just missed the birdie putt to win the hole.  After 9 holes Billy was 1 down.  On the back 9, Billy played precision golf and did not lose a hole, and went on to win his match 2/1.  Well done, Billy, a great win.

The result was a 4/1 win for The Grange team against Royal Adelaide.  All the matches were played within the spirit of the game with great sportsmanship and camaraderie.  Congratulations to The Grange team – they are fantastic representatives of The Grange Golf Club.

Thank you to the parents, grandparents and caddies who supported the team.

This win moved The Grange to 3rd place on the ladder from 5th place last week.

Our next match is on Sunday 29th May at Willunga at 11:15am against the Country Districts Team.
