The Grange Bonnar Cup team took on Royal Adelaide on the West Course in Round 5. We started day tied for top spot with four clubs – Royal Adelaide being one of those.

We needed to win this match heading into the last two matches before finals.  Royal have a talented side made up of some ex-professionals , so definitely we had to be switched on .

We got off to a great start with Nick Thompson winning his match at number 7, fresh off a week off.  By the time our number 1 match got under way, when I went to find the number 7, he was teeing off his 6th hole.

We believe he had a breakfast date to be at as he won his match 5&3, before almost half our team had even made the turn.

Ryan Sugars was looking to turn around a loss from week 3, but alas, ran into a tough opponent on the day and went down on the last narrowly to lose 1 down. There were a few errors from both players on last hole as they tried to see who could have the most shots on their last hole and win.

Patrick Brind, playing up order from previous weeks, proved formidable winning again 3/2 after he held a comfortable lead most of the day.

Colin Coleman playing at 4 got away to a great start to be 3 up early, only to be down at the turn. But CC showed his talent and resolve by turning momentum again in his favour to get another win on the board, 2 up.

Mathew Wilson showed his class by holding off an opponent with a lot of talent in his family blood line, Jonathan Cherry, to win 4-3.

Angus Dunghey played at number 2 after being at 1 for us since coming down from Simpson. Angus did what Angus doers, hitting long hard drives. He got the win on the board  very early in his round by playing the par 5s like they were par 4s. He made plenty of birdies and won his match 7-6. He was probably trying to get a best player nod for the third week in a row. Unfortunately for him, was pipped by Nick Thompson for best player on the day.

Playing at number 1 was Declan Nunn who also came down from the Simpson Cup Team, due to players returning to our Simpson side. Declan was undefeated in all his matches to date in Bonnar and Simpson. Unfortunately for Dec, he went down 4-3 on the day.  Fortunately for us, we already had our team win on the board, with a result of 5&2 cementing our top spot for another week.

We are in a great spot as we now play the two bottom sides with two matches remaining. However, we are aware this means nothing without getting the result on the day.
