Players were keen to put a win under their belts with their first-round match against Kooyonga. We headed to Royal Adelaide Golf Club and were greeted with the course being in exceptional condition for our first round. After indifferent weekend weather, Monday was a good day to play golf – overcast, cool with comfortable breeze.
Following an interesting administrative issue with player order, the competition received the ‘rubber stamp’ to begin.
The first half of the competition was anyone’s game. Nerves were in play and after the front nine we were a couple up, couple down and one square. Never give up and the team came home on the back nine with the final result of four wins and a square. Great start to the season.
Rachel Arnott played a very consistent game, lead from the first hole and came home with a solid 6&5 win over Jacqui Boylan.
Sue Dob took a couple of holes to settle and was even with her opponent in the front nine but finished strongly against Deb Percey – 4&3 win.
Ann Schaefer had a roller-coaster round and a super tussle with her opponent Lynley Marshall, finishing with an impressive come-back on the 17 & 18 holes to win 1 up.
Sue Olsen pushed through a back niggle to outplay her opponent Christine Flynn with a 6&5 win.
Teresa Batley was against ‘one of our own’ Sandy Clark. Teresa was behind until the 17th hole where she squared the score. Coming down the 18th both players were inseparable and squared the match.
Well played A3 team – won 4½ matches to ½.
We thank our five caddies, John B, Claire O, Tracey M, Deb U and Louise D – your support and player encouragement was really appreciated and valued.
We have a week off with the Public Holiday and look forward to being back playing Mount Osmond at Mount Osmond on Monday 16 March – a challenge we look forward to.
