Round 6 of the Junior Division 2 Team was played on Sunday 19th June at the Glenelg Golf Course against Tea Tree Gully.  The course was in great condition with all the holes back in play following renovations of the 13th and 18th holes. Although, rain was forecast, we were lucky that the weather didn’t come in until after we finished.

This week’s team consisted of Elyse Kozlovic – Captain, Billy White, Mason Holden, Angus Dungey , Reid Scott,  and reserve Tayan Scott. All our players had to give shots to their opponents, ranging from 11 to 20 shots!!

Mason Holden, who had to give his opponent 20 shots, played solid golf squaring the first hole and winning 6 of the front 9 holes to be 5 up at the turn. A brilliant chip in from just off the green on the 13th hole for a par propelled him to 5 up with 5 holes to go. His tee shot on the 14th par 3 was just in front of the green and he chipped on and with 2 putts won the hole, to win the match 6/4. Our first win of the day. A fantastic effort Mason.

Angus Dungey focused on course management this week, to ensure that he hit the fairways.   On the front 9 he lost 2 holes, had 2 pars, and was 4 up after the first 9. A further 2 pars on holes 12 and 13 saw him win his match 4/3.   Our second win of the day. An outstanding result Angus, especially as he had to give his opponent 16 shots.

Billy White, back from the Sharp Cup team last week, played steadily with a par on the fourth hole and only lost 2 holes on the front 9 to be 2 up after 9. He squared the 10th and 12th holes and, on the 13th, hole his chip in from off the green lipped out, but a tap in putt gave him a par. He went onto win the 15th and 16th holes to win his match 3/2. A great win Billy, well done. This ensured that the team win was secured.

Reid Scott had to give his opponent 18 shots. He squared the first hole and won the second hole, with a further 2 wins on the 6th and 8th holes to be 2 down after the first 9 holes. A great par on the 11th hole brought him back to 2 down, but the putts wouldn’t sink on the back 9 and Reid lost his match 2/1. A solid effort Reid.

Elyse Kozlovic was evenly matched with her opponent and had a par on the front 9 to be 1 up at the turn. A birdie on the par 5 12th hole had her 3 up. Unluckily for Elyse the putts would not drop on the back 9 and she was square after 16 holes. On the 17th hole her opponent chipped in from off the green to win the hole, so she was 1 down coming down the 18th. Unfortunately, her second shot found the fairway bunker and her opponent was in front of the green for his second shot. Elyse lost the hole to lose her match 2/1. A close game Elyse.

The result was a 3/2 win for The Grange team against Tea Tree Gully. Congratulations to The Grange team, our 4th win of the season. This has secured our second-place position on the ladder behind the Mid North team, and ahead of The Vines team. All 3 of these teams have 4.5 points on the ladder.

Thank you to the parents and caddies who supported the team.

Our next match is on Sunday 26th June against Kooyonga at Tea Tree Gully at 1215.
