The Grange Pike Cup team defeated Royal Adelaide on a beautiful day at The Vines, with just a little early moisture underfoot.
The Vines presented a very different challenge to Grange, particularly with its tricky greens, but the team adapted superbly to secure a 3–2 victory.
Ann brought it home for the team on the 18th for the second week in a row. She was up early in the match before her opponent fought back to square heading down the last.
Ann’s drive found the left rough in some less-than-ideal ground, requiring a bit of playing the game ’sticks’ to create a shot. She recovered brilliantly, setting up a great approach onto the green. With both players on in three, Ann with nerves of steel held her composure to win the hole and secure the match for the team. Ann and caddie Louise Dearing definitely needed a drink after that.
Caitlin displayed her class and experience, winning convincingly 5-4. Despite playing with a very slow opponent, she maintained her focus and composure throughout.
Lucy also produced another strong performance, winning 5-3 and showing exactly why she has earned selection in the State Junior Team.
Nadine stepped in for the team despite not having played much golf over the past month. After dropping the opening hole, she settled in and showed great determination and match play composure to square the match through six holes. It was a strong effort and although she went down 4-3, her contribution was really valued by the team.
Kaylah, in just her second Pike appearance, faced a very experienced opponent on extremely challenging greens. She went down 6-5 but it was another valuable learning experience and a great step forward in her golfing journey.
Well played Pike girls. Once again thank you to our caddies Louise Dearing, Zung Tran, Bruce Hedley, Alan Roberts and Louise Faint.
