Are you having trouble walking the course?

Golf is a great opportunity for exercise for all ages and levels of golfers, and walking the course whether it be 9 or the full 18 holes will provide you with significant health benefits.  We know that regular exercise enhances health, it decreases the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and overall mortality.  In fact, walking more has shown to be a significant predictor of mortality.  Walking less than 4000 steps per day is associated with a 6x higher risk of mortality compared to someone walking 10,000.  At The Grange GC the West Course is approximately 5500m from the women’s tees and 6300m from the men’s, and the East Course is approximately 5300m and 6400m from the women’s and men’s respectively. That means, if you are walking either course you will average around 9000-11000 steps over 18 holes.  Although the amount of walking you may do over 18 holes will depend on your ability, if you’re zig-zagging across the fairway you are in for a few more steps! If you are having trouble walking the full 18, walking 9 and then carting 9 is still a great option.  For those with high cholesterol, walking 18 holes 2x per week has been associated with decreasing your bad cholesterol and increasing the good kind! Finally, for those who are noticing a decrease in their balance as they age, walking the course has been proven to be associated with improved balance and reduces your risk of falling.  At GOLF+ we believe better health leads to better golf, and it does not matter your age or ability there is always room to improve.
