Mitchell Starr is a familiar face to many after commencing duties at The Grange Golf Club in February 2019 as a casual in our Food & Beverage Team.  He has also been a part of our green keeping staff and most recently been a regular on our Catering Cart.  It is a family affair at Grange with Mitch’s brother Lachy Starr as our Course Foreman.  We would like to take this opportunity to share some information on Mitch.

What attracted you to work at The Grange Golf Club?

I started at The Grange straight out of school in 2019, and I saw it as a flexible option alongside my full-time studies as a veterinary student.  Plus, my older brother, Lachy, is a greenskeeper so I thought I would come and annoy him.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

Building great relationships with the members, and the fact that no two working days are the same.

And least enjoyable?

Golfers shanking their ball into my cart!  There’s plenty of times I am safer sitting in the middle of the fairway!

Favourite item on the menu?

Southern Fried Chicken Burger.

Favourite vacation or holiday?

Golf trip through the South-East playing Robe, Warrnambool and Port Fairy, and then continuing through the scenic Great Ocean Road.

Describe yourself in three words

Eccentric
Optimistic
Loyal

What was your worst ever job?

Grange is my only job ever, but picking up pinecones in the middle of a thunderstorm during winter takes the cake!

Dead or alive, who would you most like to meet?

Sir Elton John or Quentin Tarantino.

If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be?

I aspire to be a mixed or pig/swine veterinarian, but if not, any animal-related occupation.  Maybe the next Tiger King?
