This week we feature newly elected Committee Member Darren Baynes who has been a member of The Grange Golf Club since 2007

What sparked your interest in golf and when did you join The Grange Golf Club?

I was introduced to the game and the Club by my father Roger, a 50+ year member of the Club himself.  I came to the Club as a 12-year-old junior and have enjoyed many years at the Club.

What is your favourite hole on the golf courses and the hole you just can’t seem to master?

My favourite hole would have to be the 16th West.  I love the classic pine tree-lined look which the West has historically had.

The 6th East is not a hole I have had much success with yet.

What has been the highlight in your golfing journey to date?

Few and far between but I was fortunate enough to represent the USA Team, competing in Japan, against Japan back in 2005.  It was a great experience playing a major event and competing against names such as Dustin Johnson and Webb Simpson.

What is your go to lunch order in the Bistro/Grilled @ Grange?

Club Sandwich.

What do you do with yourself outside the golf club?

I work in local government, managing a community department.  Love the outdoors, walking our two dogs, travelling and getaways with my wife Sophie.

Dead or alive, who would you most like to meet?

Tiger.

Favourite memory you have had at the golf club?

Playing an exhibition match with legendary PGA coach Alex Mercer and Warren Mercer back in late 90’s as a young boy in front of a big crowd on the West Course (thanks Warren).

What’s the best score you have ever shot at Grange?

64 (-8) on the West.

What motivated you to join The Grange Golf Committee?

A chance to give back to the Club which has given me a great deal over the years.  I feel like I have the experience and the passion to make a difference and help showcase our Club, improve services and assist in the development of future Grange male and female champions.

What do you love about The Grange Golf Club?

Great people, facilities and two great courses.
