Round 1 of the Junior Division 2 Team was played on Sunday 8th May at Sandy Creek against The Vines. The weather was overcast but with no rain forecast. The course was well presented, and the local rules included preferred lies on the fairways and the greens.

This week the 19th hole was in play, a short 90 metre par 3, as the 2nd hole was being restructured.

This week’s team consisted of Elyse Kozlovic – Captain, Angus Dungey, Tayan Scott, Mason Holden and Reid Scott.

Each of our players had to give shots to The Vines team ranging from 3 to 17 shots.

After 5 holes Elyse was 3 down, Mason was 3 down, Tayan was 1 down, Angus was 1 up and Reid was 3 up. The match was going to be close.

Angus who had to give 7 shots to his opponent played solidly, despite hitting out of bounds on the second hole and was 4 up after 9 holes, having made 2 pars on the front 9.  He continued to play well and won the next 3 out of 4 holes to win convincingly 7 / 5. Our first win of the day. Well done Angus.

Mason who had to give 10 shots to his opponent struggled to find his rhythm, he squared the first hole, but was 4 down after 9 holes. He parred the 11th hole, an uphill 169 metre par 3, but unfortunately lost 3 out of the next 4 holes to lose 6 / 4.

Elyse, was 2 down after 2 holes, and then squared the next 3 holes and had a par on the 7th hole to be 1 down. Unfortunately, the putts didn’t drop, and she went on to lose 6 / 5.

Tayan, had to give his opponent 6 shots and was 1 down after 9 holes. The two players were evenly matched. On the par 3, 11th hole, Tayan wasn’t happy with his tee shot, however, when he reached the green the ball was just over a metre from the hole, and he made the putt for a birdie. He then went onto win the next 5 holes to a convincing win of 5 / 4. Congratulations Tayan, our second win of the day.

Reid who had to give his opponent 17 shots played consistently and was 3 up at the turn. He lost the next 2 holes; however he won the next two holes including a par on the 13th hole, a downhill par 3. Reid was 2 up when he approached the 19th par 3 hole of 90 metres. His tee shot landed pin high, and he made a par to win his match 3 / 2. Well done, Reid.

Congratulations to The Grange Team for winning their first game 3/2 against The Vines. The players are fantastic representative of The Grange Golf Club.

Our second match is on Sunday 15th May at The Vines against Mid North.
