In recent weeks we have posted advertisements to boost our staff numbers for the growing season as our mowing, irrigation and fertility programs increase. The positions have now been filled with one of the new members of the team having already started and our Senior Assistant will commence here on Monday the 27th of November.
Our Groundsman position has been filled by Aiden Johanson who comes to us having commenced his certificate 3 in horticulture this year on a part time basis. Aiden, originally from Port Pirie and now living locally has had previous experience in customer service and sales type roles and after commencing his study in horticulture hoped that the change of career paths would lead him into a position like the one here at The Grange. Aiden has shown great qualities within his first three weeks including great luck, managing to take out the $110 first place prize in the ground staff’s Melbourne Cup sweep! His interests outside of work include skateboarding and supporting the bombers and he is looking forward to learning and applying his skills on both courses.
Tim Warren who is currently employed as the Superintendent at Links Lady Bay has been appointed into our Senior Assistants role. With him comes a great deal of turf and staff management experience. Tim has been in his current position at Links Lady bay for 3 years whilst prior to this Tim oversaw operations at Adelaide Shores. Tim has worked at a number of other club’s including The Horsham Golf Club where he was in charge of the course redevelopment following on from the Black Saturday bush fires which destroyed the clubhouse and areas of the course. The skillset this has given him will only assist us in our day to day preparation and planning.
He has previous tournament experience having assisted the course staff at Royal Melbourne during the 2013 World Cup and Australian Masters Events, and just this month hosting the Australian Mid Amateur at Lady Bay where course conditions were outstanding.
Although he doesn’t get out on the course much Tim is a solid golfer and this helps him to see other aspects of the course in his day to day operations. Originally from Victoria he naturally follows a Victorian team and is a proud and passionate Richmond fan and he will no doubt let everyone know about it in his first month. Tim has a wife and two teenage children and the move back to Adelaide will allow his children to continue their senior schooling in the city whilst allowing Tim the chance to be a part of the team at the GGC. I look forward to working with Tim to carry out my vision for the courses, club surrounds and staff direction and also with Aiden in developing his skills and passion for the turf industry.
