There is nothing like being thrown in the deep end, fresh off course renovations at The Murray Downs Golf Club I find myself again smack bang in the middle of course renovations at Grange.  A process I am all too familiar with and a fortnight that is quite often dreaded by members and groundstaff alike but as we’re all aware a necessary evil to keep our courses in great condition heading into the season.  My time at Murray Downs although short was a great experience for me and my family and a chance to showcase my skillset at a great course.  The Murray Downs Course is very well built, well respected and well managed, worth the drive for a great golf weekend.

I have arrived back amongst a group that hasn’t changed a great deal with only two fresh faces to get to know, it’s great to be back within the Grange team working with a group of blokes who I know and respect and have done an admirable job since Richard’s departure.  A big change for the guys not having Richard here as his guidance over the years was excellent and we all wish him the best in his new role at Kooyonga!

I come back to the Club keen to carry on a number of the programs we have been working through in the past couple of years including couch removal within greens, irrigation upgrades and drainage installation. While all of these have commenced and are tracking well I am also looking to incorporate a number of smaller maintenance programs which will develop into my long term goals and vision for the courses.  Bunker maintenance, plant pest reduction in all surfaces, Vegetation control and beautification (clubhouse and course) with an emphasis on the day to day presentation of the courses and practice areas as my number one priority.  General turf health in my time spent at the club has never been an issue with year round playability unquestionable.  I will be looking to improve on this in traffic areas and lean areas around both courses.

With the help of the group down at the shed and all staff at the clubhouse the transition back into the club will be easy and I look forward to seeing all of the familiar faces on course.
