{"id":26607,"date":"2022-10-19T10:21:59","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T23:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/?p=26607"},"modified":"2023-06-20T16:44:40","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T07:14:40","slug":"get-to-know-your-committee-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/2022\/10\/get-to-know-your-committee-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Get to know your Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Darren-Thumb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-26426 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Darren-Thumb-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Darren-Thumb-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Darren-Thumb.jpg 209w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week we feature newly elected Committee Member Darren Baynes who has been a member of The Grange Golf Club since 2007<\/p>\n<p><strong>What sparked your interest in golf and when did you join The Grange Golf Club?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was introduced to the game and the Club by my father Roger, a 50+ year member of the Club himself.\u00a0 I came to the Club as a 12-year-old junior and have enjoyed many years at the Club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your favourite hole on the golf courses and the hole you just can\u2019t seem to master?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My favourite hole would have to be the 16<sup>th<\/sup> West.\u00a0 I love the classic pine tree-lined look which the West has historically had.<\/p>\n<p>The 6<sup>th<\/sup> East is not a hole I have had much success with yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has been the highlight in your golfing journey to date?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Few and far between but I was fortunate enough to represent the USA Team, competing in Japan, against Japan back in 2005.\u00a0 It was a great experience playing a major event and competing against names such as Dustin Johnson and Webb Simpson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your go to lunch order in the Bistro\/Grilled @ Grange?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Club Sandwich.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you do with yourself outside the golf club?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I work in local government, managing a community department.\u00a0 Love the outdoors, walking our two dogs, travelling and getaways with my wife Sophie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dead or alive, who would you most like to meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tiger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favourite memory you have had at the golf club?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Playing an exhibition match with legendary PGA coach Alex Mercer and Warren Mercer back in late 90\u2019s as a young boy in front of a big crowd on the West Course (thanks Warren).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the best score you have ever shot at Grange?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>64 (-8) on the West.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What motivated you to join The Grange Golf Committee?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A chance to give back to the Club which has given me a great deal over the years.\u00a0 I feel like I have the experience and the passion to make a difference and help showcase our Club, improve services and assist in the development of future Grange male and female champions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you love about The Grange Golf Club?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Great people, facilities and two great courses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Darren-Thumb.jpg\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week we feature newly elected Committee Member Darren Baynes who has been a member of The Grange Golf Club since &#8230;
