{"id":24987,"date":"2022-03-23T11:59:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T01:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/?p=24987"},"modified":"2023-06-20T16:44:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T07:14:51","slug":"millie-goes-back-to-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/2022\/03\/millie-goes-back-to-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Millie goes back to back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Millie-Tony-Mazzone-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24988 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Millie-Tony-Mazzone-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Millie-Tony-Mazzone-web.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.grangegolf.com.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Millie-Tony-Mazzone-web-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>We are thrilled to announce that Millie Whinney has gone back to back and won the 2022 Tony Mazzone Trophy two years in a row.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Tony Mazzone Trophy was created in 2018 and is awarded to the best and fairest junior member who has excelled in their performance on and off the golf course over the past 12 months.\u00a0 The exquisite trophy was generously donated by Joe Borrelli and was presented at the annual IWS Grange Junior Foundation Day on Friday 18th March 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Millie Whinney joined The Grange Golf Club in 2016 at the age of 12 and her golf has come a long way in the past 6 years.<\/p>\n<p>In December last year Millie was recognised as South Australia\u2019s best performed women\u2019s amateur golfer \u2013 topping the State\u2019s 2020\/21 Order of Merit (OOM).\u00a0 Millie was outstandingly consistent throughout the 2020\/21 season, with four wins and three seconds from her thirteen starts.\u00a0 Wins in the Flagstaff Hill, Kooyonga, Royal Adelaide and Glenelg Vardon events demonstrated the talented teenager\u2019s ability to compete and dominate on the toughest courses in South Australia.\u00a0 This was all while completing year 12 and Covid impacting on travel and the events calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Already in 2022 she has won back-to-back Vardons at Kooyonga and Barossa Valley<\/p>\n<p>She has recently played in the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">TPS Murray River<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Vic Open<\/li>\n<li>Played in her first Australian Master of the Amateurs where she won the Am-Am Challenge and finished T4th for the event<\/li>\n<li>Tasmania Amateur Championship finishing 11<sup>th<\/sup><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">During her time at Grange she has been a m<\/span>ember of the Winning Grange Sanderson Cup Teams in 2018 and 2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to this Millie has been a member of the Winning Grange Sanderson Cup Teams in 2018 and 2021, become the Girls Junior Club Champion in 2017 and 2021 and the Women&#8217;s Club Champion in 2020 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Now that school is finished her biggest focus will be on her golf.
