Thursday 13 August 2020 at The Grange

The Grange / Blackwood Challenge was formulated by the Grange Club Women’s Captain Joyce Morley and the Blackwood Club Women’s Captain Pam Demler in 2000. The Challenge is a match play event off the stick with 4 single matches and one Foursomes match for players within the handicap range of GA 14–20.  The event is held twice per year at each of the clubs.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions the Blackwood event was rescheduled from 30 April to later in the year, with this year’s first match being held at Grange on 13 August.

Grange won the toss and with all players matched in order of GA handicap, Deb Underwood led the team out and had a worthy 2/1 win.  Steph Murdock stayed focused with a good win 4/2, and our third player, Sandra Clark showed her consistency and won 3/2.  The winning streak for the single matches was not finished yet and Onna O’Rourke came home with a good win 5/3.  Trudi McNamara and Eira Dixon came from behind in the Foursomes match to end the day winning 2 up.  Congratulations to all the Grange players having a clean sweep for the day.  At lunch after the matches, we had the pleasure of Joyce Morley coming over to say hello to the players – 20 years on from the first challenge.

We now look forward to the rematch against the Blackwood team on 24 September.  Even though it is always more of a challenge for us up at Cherry Gardens, we will go there with a score advantage of ten points to nil, putting pressure on the Blackwood team and making it a challenge for them as well.

Thank you to the Grange players for representing the club in this event.  The annual Challenge is enjoyed by both clubs on and off the course and we look forward to the return match and hopefully retaining the trophy in 2020.
