MONDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2019 PLAYED AT MT OSMOND

It all started when Rose Jarvis from North Adelaide and Vi Moller from The Grange used to meet for a game, and eventually these turned into annual affairs. They decided to play for a trophy and in 1957; Mr Vic Moller came forward with the magnificent trophy that is still used today. In 1959, Mt Osmond and Mt Lofty requested to join the competition.

The Moller Cup Competition was used as a training ground for potential Pennant players. Teams comprised of Bronze players. Ladies who had played off a handicap lower than 19 were not eligible to play.

Quote form Rose Jarvis at the annual Moller Cup presentation to North Adelaide in 1978, “Happily, matches are less ‘cut throat’ than in pennants, being played in a more relaxed friendly manner which offers good friendship and comradeship, two very important aspects of the Moller Cup and golf”.

After 1993, when Vi Miller died, (born 1894) the Moller Cup competition ceased being played.

In May 2004, Captains Lynn Creighton (Mt Lofty), Louise Dearing (The Grange), Chris Taylor (Mt Osmond) and Janet Richards (North Adelaide) had a meeting to re start the Moller Cup competition with an Aggregate Stableford competition with ten players in each team.  The first, ‘new format’ Moller Cup competition was held at Mt Lofty Golf Club on 15th November 2004.

This year the event was played at Mt Osmond. The course was in great condition but with trying conditions of high winds and temperature in the mid-thirties, all players struggled.

After the Moller Cup being held by North Adelaide for the last 3 years, congratulations go to the 2019 winner, the home team, Mt Osmond, with a total of 290 points.

Many thanks to The Grange team (see photo) who ventured up the hill with me to play – Carmel Giles, Trish Anderson, Anne Moschou, Moira Smith, Kathy Knight, Belinda Singleton, Sandra Winter-Dewhirst, Kris Tapp, and Tina Laurendi.
