The number of golf balls entering the Maintenance Facility on the West Course has become a work health and safety (WHS) concern for green-keeping staff and is also resulting in damage to solar panels. Consequently, the Local Rule applying to this area has been changed and now reads as follows:
9.MAINTENANCE FACILITY – WEST COURSE: The whole of the area of the Maintenance Facility on the West Course, as defined by the permanent red line and red stakes with black tops, is a Red Penalty area and a No Play Zone. Relief with a penalty of one stroke must be taken under Rule 17.1d or by using the designated Dropping Zone for the hole being played.
Note: As the area is a No Play Zone, playing the ball as it lies is not permitted. ALL relief is under PENALTY of One Stroke. Relief options are:
- Use the designated Dropping Zone, as is currently done, but now under penalty of one stroke.
- Use options under Rule 17.1d which are:
- Stroke-and-Distance Relief – replay the shot.
- Back-On-the-Line Relief – drop a ball in a relief area that is back on a straight line from the hole through the spot where the ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area.
- Lateral Relief – drop a ball in the lateral relief area which is within two club-lengths of where the ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area.
