    Wetlands

On Monday the 24th November Jane Riley and staff from the Channel Ten News team visited The Grange Golf Club ASR wetland.  Mrs Riley was very impressed with the great environment initiatives implemented by The Grange Golf Club and filmed a 5 minute segment promoting the project.  The segment was then aired on the news later that night.  Staff involved with the wetland project where very happy with the publicity and hope others in the community will consider implementing their own water sustainability projects.

    Million Trees Funding

On the 30th September The Grange Golf Club Inc. applied to the State Governments SA Urban Forests - Million Trees Program for funding to revegetate a ten metre corridor along the entire western boundary.  The aim of the project is to reinstate a pre-European vegetation community and increase populations of threatened plant species, while also providing a buffer from wayward balls for nearby houses.

On the 2nd December it was confirmed that The Grange Golf Club would receive $7000 to purchase local native plants and herbicides for the project.  On-ground works for the project started immediately with contractors from Greening Australia visiting the site to collect seed and cuttings to grow the plants over this summer.  However, the bulk of the project activity will occur in June/July 2009 when local schools, Club members and staff are involved with planting the 4800 plants.  For more information on planting days and how to get involved keep an eye on The Grange Golf Club website.

    Orchid

Vegetated areas around The Grange Golf Club house an amazing variety of indigenous plants.  One of these remarkable plants is the Endangered Sandhill Greenhood Orchid (Pterostylis arenicola).  In September, an orchid specialist from the Department of Environment and Heritage and the Nature Conservation Society of SA visited the site to conduct orchid surveys and targeted weed removal.  The specialists were very happy to record 102 individual plants, of which 50 were flowering (and would hopefully produce seed).  It was a fantastic result and provided great hope for the survival of this species.

    Wetlands

As of the 13th of August, 2008 The Grange Golf Club was given permission to commence injection into the aquifer.  After 4 years of design and construction Grange will, for the first time, be able to pump wetland filtered storm water into the Port Willunga Aquifer.  The EPA have tested the water quality and are happy to commence injection. The Grange Golf Club wetland will also be the focus in the next few weeks as it is hosting several wetland tours during the national science week, from August 18th.  The wetland is a great tool for environmental education as it demonstrates how private businesses can act in response to environmental pressures and adopt environmental sustainable use of resources.

Five classes of Year 7 students from Hendon Primary, along with 5 classes from Seaton High School will attend the wetland tours through out National Science Week.
