Course Tour

The golf offered at North Shore is unique among clubs in Auckland in that 27 holes are available for play. This provides members with three different playing options from which to choose. Consisting of a Red, Blue and Gold course each of the nines are challanging, yet very member friendly, and having 27 holes at the clubs disposal means different courses can be used for various events at the same time.

The Red course includes holes 1 through 9 and wanders along the banks of Lucas Creek providing spectaular views and a playing environment to match. The second nine is equally challanging. It is located on the high side of the property.

The Blue course takes in holes 10 through 18 from the Red course and holes 19 through 27 from the gold  providing two completly different nines to enjoy and play.

The Gold course combines the views of the first nine and the forest like environment of holes 19 through 27.

Three wonderful, yet different, layouts combining to provide some of Aucklands best golfing.

1st 514 metres par 5 stroke 4

This is the longest par 5 on the the course. The preferred drive is down the left hand side to allow room to negotiate around the dog-leg right. The premium position to approach the green is from the left side of the fairway, which will take the front bunker out of play.

The position of the tee shot is all important.

2nd 472 par 5 stroke 14

The preferred tee shot is at the left hand side bunker. The second shot will fall from left to right, with the contour of the fairway. The right side is the best location to approach the green from.

Keep your approach to the pin below the hole.

3rd 335 metre par 4 stroke 12

The preferred tee shot would be left of the centre of the fairway. Areas left and right of the green fall away to the bush or trees, with the right side particually difficult to recover from.

Drive to the right side of the bunker.

4th par 3 137 metre stroke 18

This is the smallest green on the golf course and your tee shot will be greatly influenced by the direction and strength of the wind, which can play tricks on the flight of the ball.

Beware of the out of bounds down the left side of the hole.

5th 335 metre par 4 stroke 8

The contour at the tee shot landing area will take the ball left, particularly in summer when drier conditions come into play. Longer hitters should consider an iron off the tee. leaving a short iron to the green. The distance for the second shot can be deceptive.

Players should consider allowing for one extra club.

6th par 4 343 metre stroke 6

This is a testing par four that demands a resonably long and well placed tee shot. Any drive short and left will be shut out by the large pine tree on the right. Any approach landing over the green will be in trouble.

Out of bounds along the left and contours right to left.

7th par 3 175 metre stroke 10

One of the more difficult par 3's on the course. The front bunkers left and right will catch any shot that is slightly off- line. The green slopes from the back to front.

Take plenty of club to ensure you reach the green.

8th par 4 269 metre stroke 16

One of the shorter par fours on the course. You will have the option of taking on the bunkers or laying up for the approach shot to the green. The ground falls away to the left of the green and to the rear. The green slopes from the back to front.

On your approach be aware of the greenside bunker.

9th par 4 390 metre stroke 2

To finish off the first nine this is a very demanding par four. The preferred tee shot is right of the fairway to allow for the right to left slope of the fairway. Be sure to take note of where the flag is located on what is a long and narrow green. Adjust your club selection accordingly.

A tee shot into the left rough could make par difficult.

10th par 5 483 metre stroke 7

This is a very demanding par five. The narrow landing area for the tee shot requires accuracy. The contours of the fairway at the landing area will take a good drive from right to left. Left of the fairway is the preferred position to negotiate the dog leg right. A long green is made more dificult when the pin is postioned back right.

Take care your second does not go over the fairway.

11th par 4 373 metre stroke 1

One of the more difficult par fours on the course. A good tee shot is required followed by an equally good second to a green that slopes back to front from right to left.

Keep your tee shot right of the fairway bunker.

12th par 4 352 metre stoke 9

A tee shot aimed straight down the centre is the preferred alignment from the tee provided your drive has sufficent length to see into the green.

In summer conditions take care not to over club from the tee.

13th 346 par 4 metre stroke 5

Stay left of centre from the tee to take the lake out of play. The green is narrow so your approach shot needs to be accurate.

Too far right off the tee and your ball will be wet.

14th par 3 175 metre stroke 11

This par three is well guarded by bunkers front and rear. Front bunkers give the impression the hole is shorter than it is. Take plenty of club.

Bale out position is right of the green

15 the par 4 354 metre stroke 7

Your tee shot will go with the contour from right to left which is the preferred position for your approach shot. The green whilst long is quite narrow and made more difficult by the hazard at the back left of the green.

Out of bounds right and a lateral hazard left.

16th par 3 153 metre stroke 17

An elevated tee down toward a well protected green with front and side bunkers.

Prevailing winds can dictate club selection.

17th par 4 314 metre stroke 15

You have an option from the tee of playing to the right of the fairway bunkers or taking the direct route over the left bunker.

Be aware of the bunker left front of the green

18th par 5 482 metre stroke 13

A tee shot played to the centre of the fairway will give you the option of playing your tee shot into the valley below the green or laying up above the valley. The green slopes from back to front.

Playing a shot from through the green will be very difficult.

19th par 4 338 metre stroke 5

The preferred line from the tee is right centre which will take out the bunkers for the second. The green slopes right to left.

An approach through the green will make par very difficult

20th par 4 339 metre stroke 3

One of the more demanding par fours. The preferred alignment for the tee shot is left of the pine trees on the right side of the fairway. Note the steep drop from the right greenside to the lateral water hazard.

Take plenty of club for the approach.

21st par 4 327 metre stroke 9

A good drive starting out to the right side of the fairway will roll with the contour to the centre or left side of the fairway. This is the best position to approach the green

Avoid being blocked out by the large pine on the left.

22nd par 3 124 metre stroke 17

The green slopes from back to front and from right to left. The area left of the green slopes steeply away.

The hole plays longer than the distance would indicate

23rd par 4 505 metre stroke 7

This is not the longest par five on the course it just plays that way. Uphill for the first and second shots to a narrow fairway flanked by trees.

A well positioned second shot will help set you up for par.

24th par 4 282 metre stroke 11

The shortest par four on the course but by no means the easiest. A sharp dog-leg right to a green shaped like an upturned saucer makes things very interesting

A well positioned drive is the key to playing this hole well.

25th par 5 485 metre stroke 13

The preferred line from the tee is right of centre. The contour of the fairway will take the ball from right to left. The best approach line is from the left, taking the front bunker out of play.

A ball played left from the tee could creat difficulties.

26th par 4 417 metre stroke 2

The longest and most difficult par four on the course. Choose a line down the centre of the fairway for your tee shot. Follow this with a shot down the left for your second. In front of the green the fairway slopes from left to right.

The green slopes from left to right.

27th par 3 143 metre stroke 16

The pin placement on this large three tiered green will demand your club selection is critical. The green slopes from back to front.

Take enough club
